Hello

With the onset of spring I was thinking of putting down some lawn fertalizer to promote good root growth.
The ones sold in the normal sheds are just "make it green in 3 days" I am not looking for those, no so early in the spring.

Can any one suggest a slow release formula that will promote good root grown during the spring season so that it is ready for the summer.

Autumn formula has less nitrogen in it if you can still find some for sale (maybe reduced to make way on the shelves for the spring stuff). you could then apply spring formula later in the year to get it growing and greened up - April or May. Or just wait a few more weeks and put down the spring formula second half of March onwards.
The grass here in Cheshire hasn't stopped growing this year. I had to cut mine beginning of February to neaten it and make following the dog round with a shovel a bit easier and its looking like it'll need doing again in a week's time. I've seen quite a few other people cutting grass already this year.
If you're not after a combined 'weed and feed and moss killer' product you could just sprinkle a bit of bone meal around any time.

Sprinkle Growmore which is a slow release fertilizer. It keeps feeding for a period and seems to promote growth really well without that sudden burst of activity you get with the lawn feeds.
