Hi all.I was wondering if any1 can advise...we put in a New kitchen and have been oilling a worktop to put in.like a total plum I accidently put a coat of wood varnish on instead of the oil.it looks terrible and needs to come off.I've googled it and folk are suggesting paint thinner and sanding but I thought id ask on here as well.I'm crap at d.I.y and don't want to make it worse as the worktop cost loads.I would massively appreciate any advise.thanx in advance.

I am assuming that you used a neat Polyurethane type of varnish which you had not diluted with white spirit or similar. If that is the case, you need to use a proprietary paint stripper such as Nitromors.
Follow the instructions on the tin and you will be able to remove the varnish with a scraper.
Then wpe all surfaces with a clean rag dampened with white spirit.
Let it dry completly and resume oiling!
That should sort it for you . . .
