Concrete Border Removal

I've got lots of this horrible concrete border/edging all around the front and back garden - how difficult is it to remove this, and how to go about doing it? I do have access to a large Hilti gun if that's what's required to pulverise it, but don't want to resort to this if it's not required.....

It depends on how well it was fitted / laid and what is securing it that will determine how hard it will be to remove, only thing to do is to try it and see, anything else is a guess.

It certainly isn't loose in any way, so I'm guessing it's pretty deep and maybe even cemented in there...... the Hilti is maybe a good starting place after all!! :)

I'd try lifting the first section with an old fashioned pickaxe, the bigger the bits coming out the easier to get rid of them otherwise you'll be digging bits of cerment out of your garden for years

I'm not a landscaper but this is how I've seen edging laid http://www.pavingexpert.com/edging3.htm

So I think your hilti breaker will probably do the job but there will be an awful lot of spoil to get rid of.

May I just point out that it is there for a reason. The compacted stone chip path needs to be retained and without the edging it will probably go soft at the edges and start losing its shape. As Mike says there will be a load of waste to remove and you will need to backfill and compact.

This is not an easy job I am afraid.

Ta. I will be replacing it with something a bit better looking, although probably not of concrete construction. I know it's no small job, hence the reason I've put it off for nearly three years!
