Kitchen questions

Post by keithski122 »

I'll be fitting a new kitchen to our house in a few months time and looking through here and online reviews DIY kitchens are recommended. Is this still the case? I'll probably be going for one of their high gloss painted ranges.
Next question is the worktop, due to my design we need one long section with a small L shaped end and a wide breakfast bar section with three rounded corners and also a small L section. For practicality we are using laminate so due to the rounded corners needs to be square edged.I've had a quote from worktop design for a bespoke cut units which although a bit higher than expected would probably be similar price to getting the top and then having someone in to cut and edge it.Has anybody else got recommendations on someone who will cut a top to my design for me to fit?

Obviously, we don't know where you are. There is a firm, Mitchells Worktops, with workshops in Southampton & Poole, serving Hampshire & Dorset, that would do this, including supplying the materials. So if you search in your area, you'll no doubt find a similar company.

Cheers.I'm in Devon, the company I got the quote from does it off site and delivers nationwide ready to fit so was after something similar.

I've used *** in the past and pretty happy with them. I tend to shop around for the worktops though although *** have started selling squared edged ones ***

Wasn't there a TV programme about this firm a few years ago? There were lots of complaints about poor quality, missing parts and bits and failed deliveries I am sure. Is the owner Vance Miller, Google it. I am not sure if it is one and the same but worth checking out the reviews.

Got me a bit confused here, are the places I suggested dodgy or the places ramonski suggested dodgy?

I don't know, I think you should have a good look at the independent reviews though :thumbright:

DIY Kitchens are fine for units...doors etc. (I believe one of our ex-regular members "colour republic" recommended them) ramonski seems to have been banned ? sooo ... maybe the people in the know on here know summat we don't ???

Update on this.
In the end I went for a diy kitchens high gloss kitchen and so far am very pleased I did.I chose the most expensive dilevery option and everything turned up on time and complete. As the units are prebuilt fitting was really easy, just bang the legs on and level.
Haven't fitted the plinths yet and the worktop is going to arrive this week so when all is done I'll post a couple of pics.

DIY Kitchens are part of Ultima Furniture Systems Ltd who have been established for more than 30years and have a good reputation as far as I can tell. They are certainly not connected to Vance Miller who has apparently fled to China after many of his staff were imprisoned in 2016.
