Dirty Grout - Fixing

Hi All,

I could really do with some help and advice please. I am finally trying to fix my grout so it looks brilliant white again and I have done so in my kitchen using the UniBond Grout Reviver. This worked well in the kitchen because the grout wasn't as bad. I have tried using the same in the bathroom but the grout is in a very bad condition and I will need like 5-10 pens to make it brilliant white, so expensive and time consuming.

I have also been painting the skirting boards in the bathroom and around the house and I am using the Brilliant White Water Based gloss. So as a quick test I used this paint to cover the grout for one tile and it looked excellent and it was really easy.. Can I continue doing this for the entire bathroom or will this cause me bigger problems down the line?

To be honest I don't have the time to re-grout the bathroom so I will need potential solutions if the water based gloss isn't one.

That is a bodge really. The correct way is to use a multi-tool with a ceramic blade to rake out the old grout so it can be redone. You probably do not want to hear that see this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG6XtggsPNg

What's your views on the Vitrex Grout Out? Will that do and then I can re-grout it? I basically don't have the time to remove the grout manually by hand. Doing it with an electric device is okay.

Is the grout falling out or just dirty? if its just dirty use neat bleach, squirt it from the top and then with a brush, long or short handle brush it all over the tiles and leave for an hour or so, keep a window open and when finished shut the door the fumes can be pretty strong. Nos

The grout is fine but just dirty and is too short to trace over with grout pens. So, are you saying this will make them whiter? I guess the smell will be very strong and is it safe with kids being around?

I have cleaned non mouldy grout with Cif cleaner. Get hold of a good hand type scrubbing brush like this https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Cleani ... ush/p18895
spray the Cif over a workable area and rub it well in neat and leave it for 5 minutes. Then sponge down. Messy but works.

the best stuff I have come across so for this type of thing is Kilrock mould remover. not exactly cheap but it brings surfaces up like new if its really stubborn it may need going over again

I'd go 50 % bleach and 50 % water and an old toothbrush... Has worked for me removing mould and soap stains. (coloured soap will colour grout which is absorbent)

Just some feedback about the issue.. If anyone is having the same issue as I did. I used the HG Mould Spray and all I can say is wow..
It has completely removed all the dirt and mould within 30 minutes. It's now at a state where I can basically trace over them for a brilliant white finish with my grout pen.

I use HG but I thought it was a bit over the top for this job as I imagined it. I am glad you got it sorted.

I didn't expect it to work and thought I'll give it a try anyway without any hope. Sprayed it and forgot about it to walk into the bathroom an hour later and I just stood there amazed. I can return the grout remover now then
