Website Review
Hi guys,
I have been working on a website for a few weeks now. I quite like the darker background with white text but every other website seems to have a white/light background with dark text.
Would be greatly appreciated if some of you could take a look and post me some feedback please.

Re: Website Review
Other websites probably have a light / white background because that is what most people like or prefer. That includes me, sorry but your grey pages turn me right off, the blue tint of your home page is really not my liking either. I know you won't like this because you said "I quite like the darker background" When it comes to selling, it's not a case of what you like, its a case of what do the majority like
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.
Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Inept people use the QUOTE BUTTON instead of the QUICK REPLY section

Re: Website Review
It's fine for me, I often have problems with coloured text on coloured backgrounds (to the extent that I have to highlight the text to enable me to read it) but there's plenty of contrast in your colour choices and I actually quite like it.
It's also a pleasant enough font and the text is large enough for me to not have to resort to enlarging it.

One day it will all be firewood.

Yes, I agree, You must think of smaller screens like a phone where brighter images are easier to see. Not only that a bright screen tends to be more inviting somehow.

Re: Website Review
I like both the opening page and the products layout - modern looking without being too pretentious (as the snobs would say!)
There is a clarity by the use of good contrast between the background and products - the images are clear, bright and straightforward visible, the text is inoffensive, large enough and readable etc.
Overall it is a site I'd be happy to shop at. Just waiting for my 'discount voucher' to arrive

Re: Website Review
Looks ok to me, but I too am one who prefers white backgrounds rather than full on colour, although compared to mine it is brilliant!
White backgrounds seem to be the trend at present and when I eventually get round to updating my crap website I shall be using white as the main background colour.

Re: Website Review
One (very good) reason for using white backgrounds on the vast majority of e-commerce sites is that where you have product pictures with no background to them, the product stands out on its own. Amazon insist that their sellers use this type of picture, I know because my wife used to be a seller and got told off.
Coloured backgrounds are fine for information pages, like tradesmen's websites advertising their services, restaurants displaying menus, etc., but not for selling, where a picture paints a thousand words. When I'm shopping from an index page, I only look at the pictures before clicking through to a fuller description.

Big thanks for all the replies guys.
Use code “20off” at checkout for 20% off
Had a few sales within a few weeks. Concentrating a lot on Facebook/google ads at the minute.
I was going to swap it all back to white background and black text but before I did I wanted opinions. Maybe Ile leave the visuals as they are for now and concentrate on generating traffic

Page one (landing/home page) doesn't actually say what you do ?

Big 'effin' deal - that's displayed on the site and open to anybody who chances on the site, not just the people asked on here to contribute their opinions.Beav wrote:Use code “20off” at checkout for 20% off
Good point. All I see is "Start Engine Stop" so it's something to do with modern cars........ digging deeper, products for sale are wide-ranging modern tech items with no real over-riding purpose or semblance of order. Nothing at all that interests me.wine~o wrote:Page one (landing/home page) doesn't actually say what you do ?
I was one of the first businesses in my then industry to go 'online', 2005/6, because trading conventionally from bricks & mortar was getting tough. So, dragging memories back, I can speak from serious experience that:
(a) it is a massive learning curve to get an e-commerce website operating to anything like success, especially using proprietary software that is meant to suit all out if the box but needs effort to understand & utilise.
(b) amateurs & the uninitiated who don't put in the effort on many, many levels and late nights tinkering with layouts & tweaks will not progress, I'm afraid. Been there, I can tell you, Beav.
(c) if you get it even moderately right you can sell up ten years later, retire at age 59 then spend your time & funds on amateur DIY investment property projects and start annoying people on forums like this one.
Rest assured, I can understand fully where OP is coming from in starting this thread & wish them luck, hopefully they will benefit from the advice gleaned here.

Blimey, s-e, cheers!
Separately, I don't see on the site any details as may or not be legally required such as registered office address, VAT Number, Company Number, telephone number - punters are not going to send money to what could be a scam, shell, empty entity. To be trusted? You decide.

So where is the darker background with the white text? I see white background with black text apart from the landing page.Beav wrote:Hi guys,

Re: Website Review
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Starting to get a few sales now and working on facebook ads. :)
I don't think you can make that home page image smaller as I would like it so when a potential customer visits the sites that image is smaller and you can see products straight away on the the home page. When I create ads they do go to separate landing pages though :)

i like the design but the dropdown menu at the top "HOME" "STORE" "CONTACT US" is not easy to see. Would be better, if you made the font bold.
Great job!
