shower leak

hello I am new to this forum so not quite sure how it works but anyway.....
had a leak from my shower to downstairs flat, so I removed 3 tiles from the bottom where the leak was coming from.
but the plaster behind the tiles is all wet and is breaking off ......not sure what to do?
also the right side has been tiled over old tiles....is this good?
should I remove the whole lot and re tile....don't really want to as money is tight.

That's all going to need to come off and be redone as you'll not get it watertight and leak free by trying to patch up.

thanks for your reply.....was thinking of removing tiles about half way up to where it is dry and maybe re doing it from there with cement board and sealing it than retiling?
do you think that would work.......

Depending on your budget , you could stick some tiles on the bit where they have fallen off ( they don’t need to match ) to make the area one level then stick wall panels to the tiles . The panels are stuck to the wall with silicone sealer and when joins and edges are sealed there is less chance of leaks and there are no grout lines to worry about.

Has that shower base got a fin around the rim edge? Because if it has then the tiles are fixed behind the fin.
Whats the background? It looks like plasterboard?
The tiles have been dabbed on with spots of mastic - wrong adhesive and wrong method.
Powdered adhesive, not mastic, is combed on.

You will save yourself grief, especially if your shower is on the first floor, if you take out the shower base and remove all the tiles, and then DIY it or get someone in to do it.
