Floor has a gradient.

Hi friends,

I am new here. Please I need expert advice on the following :

This is the area where we plan to get Topps Tiles Kamber 60x60.
The floor is concrete. I would be nice to have one continuous floor without any thresholds. And
minimal, colour matched grout will be great too. The entrance is fine but there is a gradual dip in the lounge that needs correction according to our builder's tiler.

1. Will tiling without underfloor heating be a bad idea?
2. Could someone kindly give us a ballpark on this kind of a job? If possible with and without heating _()_

Ouch. We already have bought the tiles that costed us £1300 plus. So roughly £5k more for preparing the floor and heating?

Since you want a bump. What is the underfloor that you would put the tiles on, concrete or a wooden floor?

I will soon demonstrate I don't know much about tiling but we need more info. from you.

Well the first thing to ask is electric or hot water heating UF?

Has the existing concrete floor got any insulation in it ? If not you will loose a shed load of heat through the floor very inefficient , if screed on concrete you can dig the screed up and add insulation.

I have just done this exact project it’s expensive , £5k would as said ball park material costs alone might reach that with your floor tiles.

Here are my costs

Dig up screed it was easy two of us 1 1/2 days
Heating manifold 4 ports inc pump was about £300 trade
250metre 16 per/al/pet pipe £180 on net
40mm groves insulation £500 apprOx
Self levelling compond £120
Tile adhesive £120
DPM £40
New skirting £150
Bits n bobs £100
Friend who is heating engineer 1/2 day £80 for final connections
God know how much my labour was as half the floor was tiled and half engineered oak laid slightly odd way direct onto the polystyrene insulation with out screed which despite concerns has worked a treat and given me an essentially flat step free floor through bungalow.

Somy guess at my azctual spend with out floor finishes tile/wood near £2k so the £5 for some one to be paid to do the work and make a profit £5k seems like a dam good stab in the dark and don’t be surprised that it turns out much more.

I spent £1,800 on tiles and got the oak for sillily trade money £700

Electric Heating. Only because I think it would be cheaper, easier and faster to lay, but I am no expert.

There is no insulation right now. The concrete floors had carpet on underlay. I hear the most money
will go into buying the Insulation board. I am being quoted as follows by the local tradesperson :

To purchase heating from Topps Tiles £2500 (Including insulation board)
His fee for insulation £500+
Latex, fix and grout. £2500

If screed on concrete you can dig the screed up and add insulation.

There was no underfloor heating at all. Just concrete. The heating comes from radiators and a log fire in the room.
We thought that tiling can make the floors too chilled to touch and felt some form of underfloor heating might take
the chill away from such a floor.

How kind of you to work this rough estimate. This is great help. It all looks very reasonable. We live in Bucks, I wonder
if you or any other member has their service in this area.

mona , these are very rough estimates because I just went for it and purchased materials on the net or from sources that had huge discounts avialbe.
