Hi I want to tile my bathroom floor. At the moment there is just vinyl covering floorboards with ply that was not fitted correctly that will be coming up to lower the overall height.
So the plan was remove ply to floorboard level, use thinset to install hardiebacker boards and screw down, tape joins and then tile over the top.
The bit I wanted to check was it ok to install 6mm backer boards directly to floorboards, or is there a need to screw down ply first?

I don't see any issues with fixing the hardiebacker directly to the floorboards.
