New "cooker" to try out.
This arrived this week, just over 2 weeks from China, very good considering the situation.
I saw them when looking for rice cooker ideas for when we travel. Seems like they are very common in Asia, especially in poorer countries where kitchen facilities are limited or for students.
Basically it's an oversized electric kettle. Heating element in the bottom with 2 settings, cheaper ones only have one setting, expensive ones have 2 or more. Comes with a steaming insert and lid. Low setting is 250W, high is 500W.
Looking forward to having a play with it and hopefully cooking some interesting meals. Not a big investment if it doesn't work, only cost £8.50 including post!

Just check it has a proper earth connection with it (a) being metal and (b) coming from China... just sayin'...

Pictures can be deceptive. Can you post a picture of yours standing next to say a can of pop?
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.
Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

For reference it holds 1.8l (that's cooking capacity rather than full to the brim I think). I think it is 16cm across the top.someone-else wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 7:02 pm Pictures can be deceptive. Can you post a picture of yours standing next to say a can of pop?

I did check this and lucky I did, it wasn't earthed. I suspected that anyway and I always check earth continuity on any imported electricals, so far they have all been ok but the last two items I have bought were not not earthed.idkhow2diy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 6:40 pm Just check it has a proper earth connection with it (a) being metal and (b) coming from China... just sayin'...
I opened up the cooker and found that there was an earthing point in there, a threaded stud with the earth symbol next to it. There was also provision on the internal part of the plug for an earth cable. To save a few pence though they didn't bother to use it.
Anyway a few inches of cable and a couple of crimps later and it is safely earthed.
Now to find my first recipe to try out.
Oh and extra bonus, it now turns out it was free!
The one I ordered was meant to come with 2 steamer inserts, I paid an extra £1 for that It only came with one so I emailed the seller saying that I was short one steamer. I would have happily waited for the second insert or accepted a partial refund, I didn't really need the second steamer but since it was only a quid I thought it might come in handy. Well the seller didn't reply or anything, they just sent me a full refund.
