You can visit MyBuilder.com and read some reviews. You can also check out their past work. You can find all the best and reliable builders in there.

I think that research of customers is the best approach. Have any near neighbours had an extension built lately.Post lockdown it might be an idea to talk to them about their experience. I do not think you can trust web sites to give a true picture as many of the reviews are dubious as they all sound like they are master builders rather than master baters.
The best bet is ask people who have lived through a build and can share their experience. If you can get to the local Building Control Officer and ask him who would be a safe bet, they know the good guys.

Avoid the likes of CheckaTrade, MyBuilder, Trusted Trader, etc You will find plenty of cowboys on there with fake reviews.
Stick to ones which are govt/Trading Standards approved such as https://www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk/ or https://www.trustmark.org.uk/
