Tomatoes

My south west facing brick wall , 2 varieties of tomatoes, new grape vine , two apple trees, chilled and sweet peas,

Gotta love a proper tomato: slow roasted are really nice, or fried and then mashed on a fried slice with plenty of salt and some bacon.

Mmm good ideas there Ayjay, we are thinking that we will have a glut as we have tomatoes growing all around the gardens.

We are thinking if Chutney and home made Passata to store for the winter as well.

They looks good for outdoor grown. We grow ours in a greenhouse so have been picking for about a month now.
Only grow one variety now after trying several, sungold, can't beat them.

I always preferred *Gardeners Delight*. Small and tasty and grow just about anywhere.

Just a personal thing I guess but from what I recall they were a bit tough skinned and not as sweet as the sungold. Everyone seems to have their favourite though :)

LOL I don’t know what the two varieties are , my wife’s input was buy the seed and start them off , she then lost interest and it’s down to me to plant out , feed , stack n tie and of course remove side shoots!

My tomatoes, 2 x cherry in conservatory, one normal tomato out doors.

@ chippo I usually end up with a glut of tomatoes and the end of the season and make chutney. Takes about 3 months to mature so normally good for cold meats on boxing day.

If you do decide to go that route I can share the recipe.

I'll put the recipe(s) up in the cookery corner in the next week or so. Just setting up the 4th new laptop since lockdown. First 3 arrived faulty. PM me if I haven't responded within a week.

We freeze our excess tomatoes and use them to make pasta sauces over the winter. Only just finished the last bag from last year.
