Tilling on wet board

Hi Folks, our bathroom walls are all wet boarded but we need to get rid of the bath and install a shower, I was planning to use more wet board for the shower area and along part of a wall in to contrast but the wife has it in her head to tile the shower area, question is, can tiles be fixed to wet board in the normal manor?

wet board isn't porous so I wouldn't chance it. Tiles might initially grab but will be prone to failure sooner or later.
