Boiler cupboard

Post by lostbulak »

Here’s the situation, I fitted a kitchen almost 2 years ago following the plan which my customer obtained from Howdens. Past forward today, the customer contacted me asking to sort out the boiler cupboard because the gas engineer won’t service the boiler because it’s too snug. This customer is a bit difficult expecting works for free even though it was done a long time ago.
Do I have the right to decline it? Or is she right?

Please advise.

Thanks

Did you fit the boiler? If not then it's got nothing to do with you.
Don't take it personally......

You cannot be expected to give a two year workmanship warranty. Presumably, the boiler has been serviced in the past with no issues or she is negligent in looking after an appliance that is potentially dangerous if not maintained properly. You worked to the customer's plan and therefore you cannot be held to account for Howdens and the customer's oversight. Tell her politely to p*ss off.

Answered your own question.

It's down to howdens (In this case) and your customer, not your problem.

I suspect the boiler is being serviced properly and it has come to light the boiler can't be opened as the cupboard is in the way, I often see similar, people don't want to see a box on the wall (Lightbulb comes on) put a cupboard round it. No thought given to how will the white box be serviced. Do make it clear (You will regret it if you don't) that it is NOT your problem, and the only solution is to remove the cupboard for which she will have to pay, and don't go down the route of making the cupboard into "easy removable parts" as the poor s*d who has to remove the parts has not been allowed time to do that.
Me? I am the one who has to say I can't work on that because there is a cupboard in the way.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I'd be telling them that it was built to the plan they gave you. There is no defect with the workmanship, their issue is another trade has said for their needs the cupboard is in the way.

What next calling you out to remove and refit kitchen units for free because a leaking pipe you have not touched is behind them and the plumber has said the units need to come away to repair it.
