Door handle fitting

Post by DIY-Newbie »

Hi,

I've just purchased some new door handles - photo attached.

The handle that's going to join to the door has 4 screw holes in, 2 for standard screws (all fine).

But 2 screws screw into a bar that looks like it joins the two sides together? Is this normal, could someone explain how this works please?

Thanks.

Door handle fitting

I'm guessing here but I think the fixing is designed for three thicknesses of door. The circular part is a closure trim. Many try to remove these [when required] with a screwdriver but, a car trim panel removal tool/kit is less likely to leave any lasting marks.

The other parts are effectively Stud connectors. They have inbuilt 'break points' so that they may be shortened. However, I would always use either a hacksaw or an angle grinder to cut them. Similarly, the longer set screws may need shortening.

Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere near anything like that. They are a 'fad' and unlikely to last. Take it back and get a refund.
