Voltex advert on this site.
From what I can see it is a power factor correction unit, with grossly exaggerated claims. I don't want to be associated with a forum pushing these units.

Haven't noticed this particular advert, though others have also been criticised.
What are you saying, are you going to resign/stop partaking?
After the forum was updated, I withdrew for quite a while as I didn't like it. With pandemic time on my hands I have returned - and I simply ignore/don't even see/never click on these adverts.
We know now, as if we didn't really realise before, because Chez has responded to previous criticisms, that these ads. pay for the running of the forum that you, me and all other members get for free - it costs money to run a website. So you of all people should really be thankful. The administrators have no control whatsoever over what adverts appear, some may of course be spurious (have you ever been on Facebook or youtube, they're far worse) but you don't have to click on them.
Also, the big adverts only appear if you're not logged in. This is an improvement (set by Chez & the US guy* that runs the site for him, I forget his name) over what it once was.
I dip in most days without logging on, and just ignore the adverts, annoying as they are.
* Edit, found him, member name DavidIQ, Wappinger Falls, NY.

Ads are usually based on what you have recently been looking at. So two people could look at the same page, but both see different ads. No one forces anyone to stay.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Inept people use the QUOTE BUTTON instead of the QUICK REPLY section

OK point taken this Big Clive has stripped one. And it is it seems an attempt at power factor correction which will cost nothing if using a old meter but £60 a year with a smart meter.

When i linked this site to another forum it was that advert that the admin on there saw and responded quite disparagingly about UH. I haven't actually seen the advert but have seen similar as to how you describe it and frankly couldn't see their claims as being real.

Unfortunately, I have no control over which adverts are shown on the site, although I have blocked some categories, such as Gambling and Alcohol. It amazes me that people complain about the adverts on here (you should see very little or none at all in forum after you reach 100 posts) yet Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are crammed full of adverts (but they are often disguised as posts).
Like someone else has pointed out, we all see different adverts on different sites, based on what we have searched for or spoken about. It’s a well-known fact that your phone is listening to you, if you don’t believe me just open up Facebook and scroll through some posts, then say something like “I need to find a Lamborghini rental firm in London for my son’s wedding”, as if you were talking to a friend, (even better if you are talking to a friend, and they reply). Then start browsing the internet and see how many adverts appear for Lamborghini’s and weddings over the next few days.
I didn’t like the forum update either (I preferred the old forum and modifications that were done to it), but sometimes my hands are tied. The old version of PHPBB that the forum runs on had been retired for some time and all new servers were running newer versions of PHP. From what I remember (I’m not an expert on PHP/servers etc.) I was basically forced to upgrade the forum, as it would not work on the latest version of PHP. The other two scrips that run on the site also had to be updated to versions that would work with the latest version of PHP (why they can’t make it backwards compatible is beyond me).
As for the other forum admin, perhaps they run a smaller site that is on shared hosting. I used to be on shared hosting about ten years back, it was great paying £30 per month, unfortunately the site grew and would not work on shared hosting, as it kept crashing the server due to the amount of traffic. The dedicated server that the site runs on is in excess of £500 per month, unfortunately I can’t afford to pay that from my own pocket, hence the adverts.
I don’t run any other adverts on the site, apart from Google Adsense. Basically, I just install the code and they show the adverts. On a weekly basis I get emails asking me to sell links to other site and publish articles written by other people (which contain links to their websites), but I always decline them.
So, I’m afraid the adverts are here to stay, but Like I’ve said once you get to 100 posts you should see very few adverts (in fact you should not see any adverts, unless you are not logged in).
