Tennon joints

Post by andel1 »

Hi all
Could anyone tell me what the blades are called that attach to a cross cut saw enabling it to cut tennons with a wide cut instead of lots of little ones
Thanks

I think that you are talking about a stacked dado head cutter. In the UK the saw arbors are too short to fit them as they are considered too dangerous for general use. Common in the USA but generally only used in overhead radial saws here.

Further to this, you can buy stacked dado cutter sets in the UK but they can only be used on machines that have the correct length arbor and this certainly does not include the DIY end table saws. The cutters are two saw blades with a chipper blade sandwiched between them. They have to be used without a blade guard in place so this is where they fall foul of UK safety laws.

you can also get wobble saw blades but again these are restricted by the throat off the table and the fact you will hit the riving knife at the back on cheaper saws as the crown guard and riving knife are often one and the same
