Hi all,
Fitter by day and very handy. Im currently doing domestic installer course, passed my inspection and testing course theory and practical. I've got my 18th edition and building regs exams later this week.
I know the work I will be able to take on in domestic properties, however I'm just trying to establish if I was to for example add a spur of a ring main in a bedroom. I know this is minor and non notifiable, would you still need to issue a minor work certificate?
Thanks in advance.

Domestic installer course minor work
In theory every job will need at least a minor works certificate. I know many don't bother for small jobs, but it protects you.
When some one fiddles and you have not made out a minor works and some thing goes wrong it is easy to point the finger, but even though no proof, you could fudge up some results, if there is one courts will likely believe you when you say these were my reading taken at the time, it was OK when I left.
Since my mother was getting on in years, I knew I would either be selling her house or renting it, either way I would need paperwork, so care and repair arranged for an electrician to put mains power to the door entry system as there had been problems with flat batteries, I very easy job, wires all there, just needed the 8 VAC transformer changing for a 12 VDC power supply. They could not find one except for a walmart type, so they fitted a socket, I thought oh good double adaptor and I can charge the mobility scooter from that.
So quick test and the RCD failed to trip, it did trip with other socket circuits, but not the new socket, so I knew the job had not been done right and the socket had been supplied from the wrong side of the consumer unit.
So I ask for the Minor Works, now I know jolly well it have not been tested so either they need to lie, or come back to correct, and county council is three strikes and out, had the electrician tested and filled in a minor works it would have highlighted his error before leaving, he would need to move just two wires.

Domestic installer course minor work
Yes, a MWC is required.
You are changing the characteristics of the circuit .
It’s also your responsibility to ensure earthing and bonding are up to date AND rcd protection is in place
