I normally use Sketchup when designing certain items. I used it a few weeks ago for alcove cupboards. The guy across from my was designing some shelves for the Lockup on a piece of paper. I told him I already have plans which I used for mine so gave him the cut list and plans. It took me about 20 minutes.
He was amazed such a thing existed. Bearing in mind he's in his 30's I'd have thought he'd be using it. I know sometimes the old way is the best way but I find Sketchup so much better.
I know a few people on YouTube use it quite often, Insider Carpentry, The London Craftsman etc.
Maybe we should set a Sketchup section to share plans? I'm not sure if there is such a thing but they probably charge you.
You can still download Sketchup Make 2017.
Anyone use sketchup?

Anyone use sketchup?
my son-in-law uses sketch up for all his DIY projects , transforming a garage and part workshop with BigDug units, worked out the vice, storage for Mitre/saw & table saw , vice etc etc
produced a cut-list.
he also built a draw-unit, converted the under stairs area into various siding shelfs, redesigned a utility room. With the cost of materials now it makes a lot more sense to get things perfect , then building as you go, and maybe redoing something
He also sent me various views of the Garage workshop & Utility room for feedback and suggestions - which i did provide and saved him a few hundred quid on one of the bigdug units and a slightly, different layout made for a better and a more flexible working area.
Good tool

I've used it quite extensively in the past. Mr k_e likes me to show her my efforts in Sketch Up as (she says) the finished result is almost identical to the design.
Last thing I did was a 'dutch barn' type of construction which I 'deconstructed' into a cut-list of individual pieces - quite useful.
