Bathroom Ceiling Paint

Post by newdud »

I have a small Bathroom Ceiling that needs painting so bought a "big brand" bathroom paint
There will be lots of paint left over.

I can use the bathroom paint to paint a small bedroom ceiling as well or am I asking for future problems :dunno:

Both ceiling are plasterboard with bog standard type artex / textured paint on it

Most "bathroom paints" are shiny silk finish. Over coating with matt at a later date can be a problem with adhesion. The usual advice is to use the same type of paint again (silk), prime with a special primer like Zinsser bullseye 123, or some say use a halfway paint like a satin finish as an undercoat. That said in many cases I suspect people get away with a wash down! I would avoid sanding if it is indeed Artex for the usual asbestos precaution.
Thing is once you try putting a matt over silk if it does go wrong, it really will be a pain to sort out.
