Recent Energy Price Rises
What a crock of sh17
We're looking at an annual bill of £5k (currently paying £3.5k) which, TBH, is largely as a result of running an energy intensive (freezers) business but a 50% increase is an appalling thought for many....however....
Not ONE single mention by the MSM of the iniquitous 'Green Energy Initiative' payments or the VAT that is an EU imposition that could be removed completely (as promised).
Of course, while the public suffer from these massive price rises the Government will BENEFIT from the increased revenue the Green taxes and VAT bring. Rishy Sunak fobs us off with £200 'discount' (not really as we have to pay it back over 5 years anyway) and NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE mentions it. Not that pile of sh17e opposition 'leader' or anyone.
We are being shafted. Truly shafted.

Sounds like you're electric, k-e? Surely not mains gas.
Spare a thought for those of us on oil, the price has always gone up & down, but when a refill is needed the price is the price - no cap.

Keep reading the MSM and keep being misled...... it's not Putin at all. NS2 is in place, ready to roll but the EU are refusing to grant the licences until Russia agrees to sell the gas at a rate the EU want.........
No gas here - except 47kg LPG for the hot water/cooker and a couple of bottles for my LPG Genset..... main heating is wood stove (and I live in a forest ) so heating isn't a real issue for us - call it £50/year (but I have to process the wood myself). However... we have 14 freezers on site of various size, two of which run 1kW/hr 24/7 (£7/day at current prices)
Ok, the business covers the costs but the principle still pizzes me off - around £500 year in Green Levies and VAT neither of which are 'required'.
As for oil, yes.... we have neighbours on it (and in-laws) and their concerns can only get worse - and will. Add to that the base rate increase (first of many I guess?) and there's got to be trouble ahead for many.

The causes are global – European gas stocks are down, supplies from Russia have declined and there is strong demand for liquefied natural gas from Asia. High demand in Asia for a particular type of liquified natural gas meant less was reaching Europe and weather in the US had affected exports to Europe. Bloomberg reports this was because freezing temperatures in winter meant this type of gas went to Asia where sellers could get the best rates.

Supply and demand. This time two years ago the oil companies were going to the wall with prices at $30/barrel due to over production. The coof and Government policies globally caused a restriction in demand and a consequent cut in production (not just oil but LNG etc) which forced the price to rise to a point where, as the coof scare collapses and demand returns to 'normal' there isn't enough to go around therefore prices surge.
It also has a lot to do with the NOT Global Warming as people across the globe are suffering COLDER weather.
But political interference has always been the biggest issue with energy prices - recall the Obama said, with a straight face, "this will necessarily cause your electricity prices to skyrocket". Supporters of Obama and his policies will, of course, defend him but he wasn't wrong - HIS policies (and equally numbnut actions by our own Government) have contributed enormously to the issue. There is no such thing as a 'free market economy' any more. It's ALL political.

could you not use an electric car or battery bank charged up on off peak to power for some or all the day time power

Not really - for a number of reasons. Assuming the peak period is 6am to midnight I'd have to find power for 18hrs and the two display freezers alone would need 36kwhr between them. A battery bank of 36kWhr means 3000Ahr using 12V batteries or around FIFTY of your average car batteries! Strangely (or not) I already have a 3kW charger/inverter lying around doing nothing though.
I suppose an EV could be that 'battery' but then there would be the need for a converter to take the EV output back to AC mains.... not to mention £35k for the EV.....
I'm pretty 'relaxed' over the power issue as it's factored in to the products we sell (naturally) and if I was to be anal about it there would only require a 10p/product to cover the extra cost so I'm just going to absorb it for as long as I can. The costs-of-goods (ingredients) will be rising too so if I can get to the end of this year without raising prices I consider that a bonus for the customer.

although it is the sort off thing we need to think about not as a full replacement but to knock off the sharp edges where its maximum value at minimum cost or effort must be worth a thought

I see where you're coming from b-a but the costs involved in creating the storage will exceed any savings you might make for a decade or more. By which time the storage devices would be ready to be changed due to loss of efficiency. It's a no-win situation.
Typically it WAS possible to generate your own electricity cheaper than the utilities can deliver it by using red diesel in a genset BUT the Government have realised this was about to happen so have removed access to red diesel for most people - as many heavy machinery users will know - so this can no longer be done.
This is all evidence of deliberate PLANNING to increase energy costs. The idea is to 'convince' people to use 'green' sources (that don't work) and promote the agenda.

yes its all a fine Ballance with cost and payback time on one side and convenience and savings on the other side with perhaps 4 different options to choose from
