Furniture sliders

Post by Croker »

I often get asked to do painting & decorating, but a big bugbear for me is having to shift bulky / heavy items of furniture on my own.

Obviously it would be nice if everyone would properly empty rooms to be decorated before I arrive but we all know in the real world that just doesn't happen, not often anyway.

Anyway, long story short I ordered some furniture sliders from ebay with a view to them being better than nothing, especially for under a tenner. I've only just started using them and they're great! Currently painting a good sized bedroom that is empty except for a large metal bed frame. Not that heavy but quite flexy and all the weight is concentrated on the four thin legs which dig right into the carpet. Not too difficult to move but you definitely have to drag it, especially in order to get it moving. Popped a slider under each leg and now I can spin it around like Torvill & Dean (I'm Dean, the bed is Torvill).

Haven't tried them on a hard floor yet, but they'll pay for themselves on this job alone so anything else is a bonus. Well worth the money for anyone else in the same boat as me.

I've no connection at all with the seller, and there's absolutely loads to choose from on ebay and Amazon, but these are the ones I bought:

Funnily enough I saw some dollies in Aldi yesterday, they would be ideal. Four strong castors with a good board, about tea tray size. I cannot recall how much but enough to tempt me

At the same time as ordering the sliders I ordered some dollies as well. Paid £8 odd for them, can't go wrong really!

Haven't had a good opportunity to properly try them out yet. The little wheels on the dollies look to me like they'll be more use on hard floors than carpets, and probably ideal for chests of drawers etc. Anyway I'll report back once they've had some use.
