can anyone explain red liquid on top of old white paint?

Post by Mazonas »

I found a tub of old paint, which have been left by the painters, in a house 3 years ago. It has been closed and left in a dark dry place for around 3 years. To my surprise I saw red liquid on top of the paint. The paint itself is ''contract matt'' white colour wall and ceiling paint for interior use. How come there is a red liquid on top of it and is it ok to still use it? If so, should I get rid of the red liquid or mix it into the paint?

As long as it hasn't been frosted (lumpy), or have a skin on it (air has got in), mix it in (carefully, slowly, not too vigorously) for re-use.

Paint, any paint, is made up of lots of different parts - some of which, the lighter ones, float to the top while the heavier ones sink to the bottom.
