Painting Render

Post by parkgate »

We have recently had an old alarm box removed from the front of the house.

Unfortunately, this left a bit of a mess as some of the render was pulled off - so we engaged the services of a plasterer to repair the damage and he did an excellent job.

We now need to paint the render to match the rest of the house which painted professionally, about five years ago, using “Lunar Grey Dulux Weathershield” and we still have a tin remaining – please see picture it is called “Light Base”. This is only a temporary fix as we will have the whole house re painted next summer.

In the meantime, we will paint the new render ourselves but have three questions:

1) how long do we have to wait for the new render set or dry?
2) Is the tin we have actually paint! – we are confused by the term light base!?
3) do we have to prime the surface to service prior to applying the Weathershield and what should we use to do this?

Kind Regards and thank you for your help.

When paint is mixed to order (as yours was) then the people who mix it will choose a suitable base to add the colour pigments to. In your case this was a "light base"

Feel free to crack on.

EDIT. after giving it a thorough mix obv.

Thank You for your prompt reply.

Can we just paint this on then - or do I need to buy a primer?

Probably ok to go straight on with a slightly diluted coat, say 5 % water.
