Clicking / rattle from Milwaukee grinder

Post by James1989 »

Hi all,

I just bought a used Milwaukee grinder (M18 cag115x). When it spins down I noticed there is a strange clicking and rattle noise. Is this normal and due to the magnets or is it a broken bearing?

It doesn't seem to let me add a Youtube link here but the url is .../CAW8lUMkJUU or can be found by just searching CAW8lUMkJUU on youtube.

Thanks in advance.

Turn the shaft by hand is it smooth or "lumpy" I would say its bearings going, but then it was a used item, it no doubt never said it was perfect.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I would have said the bearing too, the bearing takes all the pressure in use. The ball race may have broken and the ball bearings are free-wheeling perhaps. It might be difficult to change.

It's a little hard to tell without a disk in it but I have exactly the same grindr and it's supposed to have a brake.

Doesn't sound like yours does by the way it spins down. I'd suspect that's the noise...

Thanks for the replies. So it looks like it's definitely some kind of fault.

I wanted to be sure before I ask to return it as someone mentioned Milwaukee brushless grinders make a bit of a clicking noise.

If you have the same one Razor and doesn't make that noise I guess that answers for certain

Watch this vid at about 5.15 and you'll see the brake working

Yours also doesn't look like it has the Fixtec nut. It's a deal breaker for me on a grinder...
