Laminate breakfast bar edging

Post by Stratf01 »

Hi there
Really hope you can help me out here please.
Be very grateful.

I'm trying to get a really good edge finish on laminate worktop for breakfast bar curve.

I've considered a few pointers on how to glue and carefully file down which has been helpful.

The trouble I find is I'm working with very little colour thickness on laminate meaning that there seems to always be a small amount at very edge showing. I'm taking care only to file in right direction and stopping the moment lip is flush. As far as I can see I've not filed down to the bare worktop it's the backing of edge strips from what I can see.

I'm wondering if colorfill can be used to make finish really nice?

Any tips at all hugely appreciated.
Thank you

If i understand correctly, you will always get a line as laminate is clear plastic coating' paper then plastic backing so a layered edge will always show

You will always have a joint line. One way of minimising the line is to use a router to cut a shallow rebate along the face edge under the top laminate so the edge joint line is under and flush. This requires a template and a bearing guided cutter. A lot of work, easily messed up, but that is the way to do it.

you will always get a small line particularly noticeable if the worktop is a light colour. most edges i seem to fit now when i do laminate tops are the thicker soft plastic type edging. last few kitchens have had quartz tops though
