Porcelain Outdoor Tile Cut 20mm

Hi All,

Interested to know whether my 9inch (230mm) angle grinder with a diamond continuous rim porcelain blade is up to the task of cutting 20mm thick outdoor porcelain? My patio size is 18m2, and I have a handful of cuts to make due to simplistic design. I have a number of suppliers on the line for the disc, Rubi or abrasives world own brand. Will the tool and blade achieve the desired result i.e. minimal chipping and waste? I just need straight lines.

The alternative option is to hire a raimondi zoe bench saw, though the cost is a little excessive and not sure its worth the cost for simply 5-6 straight cuts I need to make. Its also a beast of a machine with no prior knowledge, which does worry me.

Is the grinder up to the task of 5-6 tile cuts, or is the table saw a better option?

Whilst an angle grinder as yours will cut, the accuracy will be poor, there are hand held tile cutters with a sole plate and wet kit which you could set up a guide (clamps and straight edge wood) and be better off.
Mine is a Makita with a clip on water bulb but not sold in this country what is and not my recommendation, but an example GMC1250 available for about £90.
For £45 ish you can get a small table cutter, I've had one from S. fix for years and though messy and the fence is not accurate it does the job on medium size tiles but read the spec for depth as you need 20mm+ in the S.fix reviews for PTC450E someone used for 20mm porcelain.

Get a wet tile cutter, I always use a wet (table) tile cutter for straight cuts on porcelain
