Wifi access Swann CCTV

Post by cliverlong »

Hi a friend has moved into a house which has a Swann CCTV system. The DVR is in a (hopefully) secure location on the property.
I want to be able for her to dump the footage each day to cloud storage (say Dropbox of GDrive). I think the software allows for this. However, the DVR needs to be networked to reach a cloud drive service.

I have used Powerline ethernet extenders to access the DVR from a PC within the property. The Swann website indicates there is a firmware level that can be loaded that allows wired ethernet or wifi access to the DVR. The wifi device can be a simple USB wifi dongle. The current loaded firmware does not show a wifi network option. I have gone to the DVR system menus and selected check and load firmware when the ethernet/powerline is connected. The DVR states the latest firmware is installed. Is there some online location where the latest firmware is stored, in case the over-the-air system has not been updated to identify the latest firmware level? If there is a latest firmware with wifi support, I am thinking I can download it then install it from a USB memory stick.

If it helps, Swann CCTV has a reputation of being cheap and cheerful, seems it is true.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
