Advice please.
Had 10 oak veneer internal doors fitted by joiner. He has taken most of the doors on the hinge side down to the particle board. Some also on the top.
He has then left them and never returned. We did not know he was going to do this.
I need to resolve this issue. Xan I but iron on laminate strips and apply them to the cut edge?

Finishing of internal veneer doors
Post by dewaltdisney »
If you buy proper veneer it will come in leaves that you can cut strips from and PVA them on. This is thin, the pre-glued edging may well be too thick and impede the door closure. Here is a pre-glued type that is a bit thinner than edging https://www.thewoodveneerhub.co.uk/prod ... ood-veneer

Finishing of internal veneer doors
wow. im a joiner. if i was fitting oak venneer doors into old frames id be double checking everything before i go anywhere near one of them with any tools.
they are limited to something like between 8 and 15mm that can be trimmed off to make them fit. some houses the door frames can be so far out that its impossible to get the door to fit.
this would then be a case of replacing the frames and then hanging the doors into new frames.
not entirely sure how you will be able to rescue this situation to make the doors look any good mind. you can buy strips of veneer that can be glued on but i doubt itll ever be a decent job unfortunately

Finishing of internal veneer doors
i have on occasion had to cut doors down in height and this does sometimes expose the core. this is obviously not ideal but less of a problem than on the hinge side of the door which is going to obviously be visible.
i remember a joiner on a job i was on once who ran a circular saw through a oak door to reduce a 30 inch door down to 27 inch or something like that. it looked attrocious.
mind the same bloke looked as though he employed a beaver to chop the latches and hinges in with its teeth too.

Just an idea that I've seen done that looked better than it sounds. Paint.
Paint the edges of the door a contrasting colour . The ones I saw were oak doors with the edges painted red. I was also asked to do similar on a different job although that was a red painted door with white edges. It may need a bit of prep to get a decent surface but perhaps an idea.
