Water coming into stone terrace below second floor window

Post by cjmort »

Hi. First post here and I’m loosing my mind. I am renovating my stone terrace. And when we get heavy rain the head above the front door gets very wet.

The door is 5years old (I had it fitted)
We have had the house repointed
Gutters and felt trays are brand new.

After doing all of this it’s still happening. (Have even resealed the window in all areas)

On the second floor above the front door. I have now cut the joists out of the wall so I can see to a certain extent; into the stone walls.

When I put my phone camera into the hole through crevis’ etc I can see that stones are very wet and towards the external stone, must be soaking to then collect onto my front door. But upstairs (where I’m checking) has absolutely no water damage. So the main water is clearly coming in from the front and working its way towards the internal stone.

Where or what is causing this??? 😫

:welcomeuhm: Well to state the obvious it is coming in through a gap somewhere, a suggestion to find it if you can loan an air compressor, have someone listen inside whilst directing the air jet around the outside walls.
Good luck and please report back!

Will definitely try this but the difficult issue there is it’s a stone wall and due to having limited access to the inside I can’t see much of anything inside the wall. Only crevis’ that get wet etc.

My neighbours house (attached to me) his house is damp and it badly needs repointing at the front. This could be a cause, but I have water on the furthers side of the window I have mentioned also and I don’t think that is coming from his side 🤦🏻‍♂️
