Which way to hang a hanging basket bracket
I am hanging a traditional handing basket bracket.
I notice that some people put them up with the section to hang the basket at the bottom.
I also notice the others put them up with the section to hand the basket at the top.
Which is the preferred way of doing it.

Which way to hang a hanging basket bracket

The logical way is with the bracket facing down. The reason for this is that the load is transmitted down the support arm to the wall. If upside down the support arm is being pulled downwards and although unlikely to cause issues it might. Not only that it looks wrong upside down.

most brackets tend to go underneath as it not only helps with heavy shelves being located by gravity before fixing 'it also goes back to the load closing up the joints on things like timber or gallows brackets
also brackets overhead if the bracket is upside down the bracket its self can part cover the screw holes
aaannnd if your bracket is heavy duty if you turn it upside down the side by side screw holes designed to take the heavy load will be taking greatly reduced load as the bracket will mostly be pushing onto the wall rather than load trying to rip it off

Cosmetically I tend to feel it looks better as dwd describes , that is with the lower end of the diagonal against the wall. Practically speaking I don't feel there's much difference. It's unlikely the bracket itself will fail , assume it's one of those welded steel jobs , the most strain is going to be on the uppermost screw that holds it to the wall. That one takes the force and either way up the bracket will try to pull that fixing out.
Incidentally screw into the joint not the brick. The bracket will be rusted and removed long before the wall and a hole in the joint is so much easier torepair than one in a brick...
