Socket from spur blown twice, spur fuse hasn't?

Post by Danny89 »

Hi,

I have an odd problem, I have a double and a single socket which are both spured off a ring main and have an in line fused switch.

The original double socket suddenly stopped working but the power to and from the fused switch was fine and the single socket still worked. Replaced the socket and it worked for a couple of days and the new socket has now blown but again the fuse is fine!

If this was a load issue (only powering a washing machine ATM on the double...) I'd expect the fuse to blow and not the socket itself, the mains fuses are also completely fine. The socket has been tested with a multi meter and a socket tester so its not wired wrong and it is earthed correctly. The single socket on the same ring main which powers a fridge freezer also has no issues at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to whats gone wrong?

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean when you say "the socket has blown"
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I would be checking the W.M. plug for poor contact if the new double socket has burn marks; also there are some cheap sockets on the market despite their BS stamp.
How about the W.M plug is that a fused plug?
