New external socket to be run from internal spur.

Post by Froggie66 »

I wish to put an external Ip66 rated 2 gang weatherproof switched socket outside the house.
The only internal socket I can use to run a cable to the new external socket happens to be a spur.
i.e. only one wire to the switch. This is the only socket I have with an external wall on the other side.

I know you cannot run a spur from a spur but is there any way that I can wire up a new external socket from this one and only
socket?

thanks all.

Please not too technical replies, either Yes of No and then if yes how to do it safely.

Fused connection unit before socket. Have as many sockets as you want after said fused connection unit.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I am not a domestic rated electrician and so welcome criticism from same.
Make external socket an extension from internal socket by fitting a 13amp fused plug or lower rating; so you will have a loop of wire from wall to plug and then existing socket..
Or : Make internal socket a dual partition back box, provided existing cable to it is at least 2.5mm twin & earth; fit 13 amp FCU on this incoming source and the out to internal single socket and wiring to Ip66 external.
