Hi,
Novice here. Apologies. Had a crack in kitchen wall area above window. Think due to steam perhaps from kettle etc. Photo attached. Tried to fill with Polyfilla. Don’t think I got in deep into crack but it has covered hole. But clearly from other photo attached looks bad cosmetically. Wondering if I should sand down with sand paper to make it look better or if you would advise something else. Photo attached of bit that came out of crack too. Maybe I need to get a plasterer in.
Thanks very much in advance.

Crack in plaster - made worse!
A tip for the future, when you use a filler smooth it off with a straight edge to get it level before it goes off. Wet the edge so it does not drag. You can sand it smooth when it is dry although it will create dust so wear a mask and glasses. If you have any residual voids go over again and repeat the process.
