Thanks for the answers, advice and opinions. I think I'm going to go with the corded flymo.
As mentioned the two battery powered ones require the battery purchasing on top, just increasing the price further on equipment that I don't even know will actually be able to do the job. I work away for up to a month, the Gloria thing does look like it could cut through lengthy grass, but if I just have to strim it first then so be it.
Clippings of any length aren't a problem for me, as I mentioned it's not a big area to rake up, just congested, and we live on a farm so I can just dump the clippings easy enough.

The Lidl Parkside powered hand clippers were mentioned in page 1 of this thread and I found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmDLtzI-PQM As you cn see it us useful for trimming a Bonsai tree and the odd dandelion.
