Xpelair LV100HTS advice.

In my previous post I asked for advice about a Vent Axia fan that wasn't running off the light switch as our previous old fan did with a run on timer. Since then the electrician changed the fan to Xpelair LV100HTS.

He is having problems getting it to run off the light switch. Xpelair website says this model can be run off the light switch as well as with the humidistat

Both the electrician and myself contacted Xpelair support , yet we both were given completely different advice. My reply stated it can run off the light and humidistat , the electrician’s reply said it could not. Strangely both of our replies appear to come from the same person.

Has anyone else managed to set up this fan to come on with the light?

You and your electrician are looking too deep. Take the fan down, take it to your shed, and put a cable and plug on it.

The wiring diagram does not show the use of a trigger wire. However looking at the fan LV seems to show extra low voltage 100 seems to be size H for humidity and T for off time delay and S for sensed so one would think LV100HTV would use the T terminal.

When the I think it as Part L first came out it was required that if no opening window but did have natural light that you could use the fan without using the lights, this requirement was dropped later, but it resulted in being common to fit two pole light switches so although the light switch controlled the fan, it was in fact two switches in one, and the fan wiring could be completely independent to lights wiring, and one could have a pneumatic push button as well as light switch to start just the fan without the lights.

Use of humidity controls and LED lights mean this was really not required and the requirement was removed, but it is some times a problem getting a supply from lights and a fused supply from for example the ring final to work the same light. Due to needing a second supply to the double pole switch.

However any electrician worth his salt should be able to work out what to do, I can understand him saying the cost to fit this fan means it would be cheaper to buy an alternative, but he should be able to work out how to wire it.

I am unable to get a photo of the wiring.

The installer came back and connected the fan to the light. Now the fan comes on with the light however it doesn't activate until humidity levels are very high meaning the bathroom has too much condensation before it activates. The fan timer also doesn't overrun once the light is off as our very old one used to.

The installer says he is coming back to change the humidstat setting as he thinks this is the problem. This still doesn't solve the problem of the fan only going on when the light is on and not overrunning when the light is off.

Lets agree, for a fan timer to work it must have a permanent supply separate from any light switching and if you search for the manual you will see for the model LV100TS this diagram which on the transformer input side is what sanitygone's electrician should be able to work out!
