Attached to the exterior of 30 year old house.
It is where the fireplace is inside, so presumably related to that.
Why have this? Can I get rid of it?
has anyone come across a metal 'plate' like this?

I was going to say I have one in my head Looking at the photo it appears to be blanking off an old balanced flue, this possibly might have been a gas fire or coupled to a back boiler behind that supplied the hot water and heating. What makes me think that is the wall plugs which may have been for a flue guard cage. It may also have been an airflow vent as it looks around 9" square. I would say that it is okay to brick it up as it is doubtful there is any function for it.

Thanks DWD. Before was a gas fire which was removed by previous owners (replaced with a decorative non functioning 'fire thingy' just on the wall!).
I did think the wall plugs were used to hold the plate in place while the silica sealant set (with strips of wood or something), but you may well be right about a cage...!
Yes, I want to get rid of it, but very difficult to find the same bricks!

I recall a brick tint you can use to colour the face to match. Have a look https://www.dyebrick.com/product/colour-panels look at warm orange
