Second Floor Valley Replacement - Scaffolding or CAT ladders

Post by HallGreenUk »

I need a valley replacing. The 2 best quotes are the same job. They will take out current valley and replace with a fibreglass valley. Both will give a 10 year guarantee.

However, there is a difference in the quote of £250. This is because one say they will use CAT ladders and the other say they will need scaffolding set up. The second guys have said they need scaffolding to do the job proper and the job will not be as good if anyone uses CAT ladders. Both firms that gave quotes have good customer feedback.

So, my question is are they right. To change second floor valley do you need scaffolding to do a proper job or can you do it with a ladder and then CAT ladders on the roof.

Would that not depend on the ability of the person doing the job?

Our zinc valley (Yes, zinc, all houses round here have it) failed we had it changed to lead, he wore a jet pack to do it, very impressive.
Only joking about the jet pack, he had scaffolding.

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Second Floor Valley Replacement - Scaffolding or CAT ladders

I would say scaffold probably ensures a safer access and the workers will he better focused on the job. The scaffold allows for a pulley hoist to get tools and materials up and down. You coukd potentially climb up to see the work. Ladders would encourage corner cutting. Just my thoughts.

That is a good point about potentially cutting corners

To replace a valley will involve removing tiles or at least it always has done in my experience. Those tiles need to be put somewhere while the work is being done. Having a scaffold gives one more room to work and to place the tiles temporarily, makes lifting materials or lowering debris easier and safer. It’s not guaranteed that having a scaffold will result ina better job but it certainly seems a lot more professional.
