Bathroom Extractor Fan Not Working

Post by Father Ted »

I've got a Tipo Lineo 2 100 T V0 bathroom extractor fan that has stopped working. Physical inspection shows that all is fine - fan turns freely, no obviously blown components. Been installed approx 8 yrs with light use, not that is really matters now.

It does turn - albeit slowly - when the light is switched on and activates it.

There is a hum from the motor which refuses to spin. Is the motor in these serviceable or must a replacement unit be purchased? Everything in the junction/control box on top of the unit physically looks fine. Is there any replaceable components that I can check? Could the capacitor be faulty?

If a replacement is required, would a Vent-Axia be a better quality replacement or what are the best brands to use?

Thanks.

I've just checked the capacitor - it is rated at 0.5uF. I measured it as 0.463uF. So I think all is good there unfortunately, as that would have probably been the easiest fix.

Anything else?

Note: In initial post I state that it spins slowly and then in subsequent paragraph I contradict this by saying it doesn't spin. This is an error, it spins slowly (at a speed I can see the blades turn) - but not at the speed required for any useful extraction purposes.

Bathroom Extractor Fan Not Working

I googled yours they do have a good reputation.............for failing. You don't need to spend THAT much on an extractor fan, which one you buy is up to you, bear in mind the more things it has the more likely it is to go wrong. I have one that has no timer, and it must be ? years old (No timer to fail) Also bear in mind that it is only a fan, not a suction pump. It can only move air, it can't suck air, so make sure the door to the room has a vent in it, a 1cm gap under it, or as I do, leave the bathroom door ajar when in use.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

You get what you pay for, so spending a bit more is a good idea

Contradicts what @Someone-Else said. So what inline fan should I get? I was looking to get one with a high m3/h rating.

Manrose and Vent-Axia get good reviews in general.

Manrose MR100T £79
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Manrose-MF100T ... 120&sr=8-1

Vent Axia £134

Or any other brand?

Either of those would be ok as long as the gap under the door is at least 6mm because if the fan pull enough air into the room it’ll be rubbish

I have been trying to explain that to Mrs D for years. If you have the cooker hood on, leave the kitchen door open a bit to ensure venting. If you close the door, a slight vacuum will develop, stopping any venting. She still closes the door, so I have failed on that mansplaining.

Went for the Manrose. We'll see how it performs.

Thanks.
