Worcester Heatslave 12/14 clicking

Post by GTi »

It's an old boiler, but it's quite reliable.

It was left on very low for a few weeks and then turned up today.

The grey box which I believe is an actuator that opens or closes a valve (I'm guessing) , makes a clicking noise, about 4 times a second.

Otherwise the heating seems to work but the hot water is only tepid at best. I don't like leaving it on with the noise it's making.

Any suggestions? Strip the entire machine and put a new valve in?
Too difficult or just time consuming for someone who has no experience?

I am NOT a plumber/heating engineer but that looks like a motorised valve. (It's a valve which is operated by an electric motor sitting on top)
The clicking is because it can't open or close (which ever it is trying to do)

It may just need its lever moving, it may need a new motor, it may need a complete new valve, have a look on YT and see if you feel confident/capable.

If you don't, don't look for a plumber you want a heating engineer, ask do they know your boiler, they may have met him down the pub  but seriously ask if they work on "Your brand" of boiler. some will some wont.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
