combi square

Post by fin »

gents... i need a new combi square. current one ove had for about 15 years. inherited it from a customer. its a geet owld starret tool. so old its rule has only imperial markings on it. the locking nut has stopped tightening up. it now just spins unfortunately.

the standard modern types are all a bit crap to be fair. the older types are always a bit heavier.

id probably look one up on ebay maybe. like an older maybe starett or rabone chestermna or whatever.

there are some more modern types maybe trigjig that make what look to be very decent although pricey tools..

any of you lot got a super posh pricey modern one or do you all just go for the standard type?

just a DIYer , but i have a few bacho combi squares - 2x400mm , 2x300mm and 2x150mm use quite a lot , also have a couple of old combi purchased in the 1970's when i first purchased a house
BUT as i say just a DIYer

I have 2 of each as i found use to mark out guide bar for using a circular saw and template for cutting sheet materials etc - dont have a plunge/tracksaw - just a few trend guides

Rabone Chesterman was taken over by Stanley in the 90s. I have a Starrett combi square and a Bahco. I normally use the Starrett but I find the Bahco one decent enough.

Maybe wait until a tool fair is in your area.

These are on Ebay:
