Mad Idea? Just a waste of time?

Post by Rorschach »

Changes were made over the weekend. 600W fan heater in each of the cold cupboards. Wiring tidied up and made neat and safe. All runs from a smart plug I can set timers on. So far seems to be working well but a cold snap has meant I had to increase the daily input to make up for the loss of stored heat from the bulb experiment. Average temp now hovering around 13.5c, most importantly though the cupboards are nice and dry with no condensation forming. Over the summer I will pull everything out and give it a thorough cleaning, touch up the paint etc if needed and hopefully next winter should be mould free!

If you could get behind the cabinets I wonder if this might be a good solution stick on the wall https://www.screwfix.com/p/klima-underf ... -5m-/76438 self-adhesive with thermostat control it might be a long-term solution? What do you think?

It would certainly solve the problem of condensation on the walls (assuming you could cover enough of the wall). In my case I think it would be very awkward to fit though and my concern would be the inside of the cupboards and items within that might still collect condensation as you would be relying on radiant heat only and my light bulb test showed this can have issues compared to using "forced air".

Be pricey too, I'd need at least 2 rolls and a thermostat, so not much change from £200 all in. Current investment is less than £20.

Just an idea but clearly impracticable for your purpose. Never mind, it worked in my imagination

A good idea certainly, especially if you were doing an underfloor job and had leftover materials.
