Cordless circular saw

I am thinking of buying a cordless circular saw and don't mind spending up to about £80/£90. I may have to review that budget as I find out more about them

!! I think (alright I know) that stuff like DeWalt is out of the question. I have been looking at the Ryobi One+ range but I have heard that it is a bit underpowered. It is only for DIY but it will get a lot of use.

I had a 14.4 ryobi, it had the power and would happily cut 3/4" oak, although the batteries could benifit from a higher amphour rating.

i have loads of ryobi 18v as my lighter secondery kit it will do all you ask from it and more i rate the kit as diy or light to medium trade

i actualy use it more then my 18v dewalt or my 24v bosch as its lighter

i would agree entirly about batteries but thats the only down side at the price great kit

Im not sure how the ryobi battery systems work, but if different capacitys are available, get the best ones you can afford.

You wont be dissapointed with the quality im sure. 8-)

the batteries come in 1.5 1.7 and 2amp hour all depends on which complete kit you buy
the only batteries normaly avalable [in the one + range] is 1.7 ah

the battery number on most gives you the voltage and ah as in 1817 is 18v 1.7 ah

Thanks to both of you for that info on the batteries. I will be off to the Screwfix shop in Nottingham in the near future to buy it, in fact if I go and join the queue now I may be out for Easter

. If you've ever been in a Screwfix shop you'll know what I mean.

A few of the screwfix trade counters are close to B&Q warehouses and so they are taking trade from each other, yet are owned by the same company:??

certainly the sfx shop where I live must only be 1mile from a BnQ but the queue is shorter in sfx the stock levels are better and at least you can look at whether sfx sells a product before venturing out. I personally think BnQ has gone down hill in the last 2-3yrs and am now spending more time at sfx or even TP if I can renogotiate the retail price

I hate the way they rip off joe public

I went in about 2 years back, got a few bits and bobs, was very expensive!

Went in week later with mate, who is a plumber and the guy was knocking him 40-60 % off

I never go there now unless I am desperate, and then I take my mate with me

the only thing going for them is the free delivery, so if you have very bulky/heavy items like PB or bricks then its useful. What I tend to do is query the price.....errmmm that sounds alot, wasn't the price I was expecting.

I personally think its appaling they operate with a clear 2 tier pricing policy. I'm well aware trademan get a little discount when they are on account but 40-60% discount over us DIYers is just taking the P*** :mad:

I take it no one on this board works for them who'd like to comment/advise on how we can all get a realistic deal :o

Have you ever noticed that when you are standing by the counter at some builder merchants the way that some of the 'pros' roll their eyes towards the ceiling when you ask a question. Not all 'pros' are like this, infact some are really helpful, but the ones that seem to think that they know it all really pi*ss me off. Even they had to learn once. Apologies to any pros out there that treat us DIYer's like humans but I just wanted get that off my chest
