Given my nearest neigbour is 400m from me and I'm surrounded by forest I tend to forget people live in suburbia!

Not just current neighbours but new neighbours, and distant neighbours. people can be vindictive when upset, and can get upset over the slightest of things.

All it takes is for someone 10 doors down to want planning for something and the council to refuse, with them then saying we'll you allowed Mr xxx 10 doors down to do this why can't I?

As long as you don't mind dealing with potential hassle later on and have no qualms about breaking local planning regulations then do as you please, just don't complain if it causes you issues in the future. and remember the council don't care how much cash they burn perusing something as its not their money they are burning its yours (council tax, it comes in every month to top up their coffers) they don't mind dragging things out, it keeps them employed that little longer, you think your playing games with them, their laughing at you as you're not, you're keeping them employed for longer.

Neighbours of ours didn't follow the rules, built a massive fence at very high cost, 6 months later they had to have 2/3rds of it chopped off to meet planning regs. Cost them a fortune and now it look ugly as hell and they have no privacy. Should have kept the bushes that were there before and paid a gardener to keep it tidy, would have saved money in the long run and had their privacy.

A quick Google search showed a pent roof should have a 9 degree angle
1600mm run x 30mm rise./ fall
Your measurements come out at 10.6 degrees
This website will help with the calculations

I don't think the op cares about local / national regulations on what they can build without planning permission, or the hassle that can come about from it. They've already said the welcome the local council challenging them. Either way they want to do what they want, and will do what they want regardless.
