The fix I used was:

FORMAT C: /U

then I installed Linux.

Disclaimer: Yes, that was a joke. And for anyone who thinks this can do damage, Windows won't let you do this while Windows is running so no-one should end up with any more data loss than Windows already gives you. You can't unmount the volume while it's in use as Windows won't let you.

Sorry, just trying to be clear and avoid being accused of wanting to destroy someone's beloved filesystem. :P

Unless you add an undocumented Switch :shock:

FORMAT C: /U /Q /REALLY

and the system will then say

"Whatever!" and format the Disk :thumbright:
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

@village idiot

Scan for spyware and get an online scan do as well, I personally recommend panda, though mcafee and norton are ok.

Personally what I would do is go to C:\program files\ and delete all the program files to do with live messenger. Then go to the program data and delete the live messenger data there. Make sure the recycle bin is emptied then reboot. Then go to add/remove programs and try and remove it, it should remove it then.

If that works scan the registry with something like ccleaner.

If you delete files from C:\Program Files, you'll most likely find that you will not be able to uninstall it through the Add/Remove Programs dialog. A registry cleaner should fix this for you, but there's no guarantee.

This is a zone alarm issue and they have issued a warning and workaround.

We had trouble with AVG updates, so my other half has now got another one on called Avast. It's doing its job so far finding baddies but how does that rate?
Failure means you just didn't get it right yet!
