"Your Local Multi-Trade"

I'm not so sure that my clients would get that?

Other tradesmen might, but I'm probably stretching it a bit

Sounds like a Seven Eleven

I think I'll stick to Your Local Handyman. Mrs. Gulliver at 37 recognises it.

I'm afraid it's the Clients fault for nickel and diming the job and not getting proper money qualified trades people to do the work.

No sympathy from me!

The usual " go for the cheapest quote" scenario to me.

These foriegn nationals learn a trade in a day.

I was working on a job (I'm a painter and decorator) and this estonian dude basically watched and asked me questions all day.
I said whatever you do for a living I'll do it 'cause I haven't seen you lift a finger,he was the tiler.

Now he is a painter and decorator apparantly!!!
It's what they do watch, then get paid for learning in peoples houses.

Look in gumtree, they do it all,now I don't care what anyone says no-one can do it all to a professional standard.I stick to P&D I'll get a m8 in if I need a floor laid etc.

Customers own fault in my view!

It was a South African who did the work........have found out that his quote for the entire job of altering plumbing, plastering, fitting bathroom suite, tiling and painting was.........£800!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent three years working with South Africans on armed work in another line I used to do. They were mostly bluffers too. All said they were either ex Colonels or special forces police pmsl. Very few were good operatives.

I think people are a little unfair with foreign national trades men. I remember a program that highlighted the issue and followed two tradesmen through a contract building two house extensions and the foreign national came out on top. The Englishman was nothing more than a cowboy. You only have to watch these cowboy builders programs to see we have our fair share of cowboys masquerading as tradesmen. Slagging off foreign nationals lowers the tone IMOA.

When foreign nationals are working on a building site, 99% cannot speak English, in my opinion that is a danger to everyone.

Mention the regs and they have a blank look. At the very least they should have the same qualifications and speak and understand English.

In London especially they are used as cheap slave labour, and consequently devalue the trade for Genuine tradesmen/women.

Have yet to come across a decent foreign national. Last site I did which was nearly 3 years ago, I had to stamp on the head of one for using my steps to balance himself whilst I was up them. That certainly made him let go pmsl. In fact all the taping and jointing teams on that site were foreign labour and they had to rip it all out and do it again, using English labour.

Did a wet room for an architect a couple of years ago and the main contractor doing the rest of the house was an Israeli who used Bozzos and Poles to work for him. Standard of work was shocking and to make things worse, they even tried bluffing the client until they found out what his job was. I hope it is the only time I will have witnessed tongue and groove being rubbed down whilst the 'painter' follows along two feet behind, painting over all the dust. They had also hung a new door on the wet room and couldn't even do that right. Poor fit of door to frame and hinges were on the wrong way, frame leaf was on door and vice versa.

Got examples as long as your legs of the poor quality of work.

this is the very reason I do everything myself and even if I cant I watch the builders doing the work like a hawk as so many times I have seen people trying to cut corners and then trying to come over that they know what they are doing when I know very well they are just trying to cut costs.
