I wouldn't go that far lol. The sparks on here know much more than me and could make me look like a bufoon with ease

I'm a shift worker in a chemical plant, but I have done more than my fair share of DIY

Good luck with your light

P.s. don't forget to switch the electric off first

Have hit a snag! Got another room, exactly the same situation BUT the blue wire (out of the 3) that is going into the live hole on the current ceiling rose has no brown sleeve. Does that make it any different? Or do I still stick that single one into the new live hole and the other two blues into the neutral and tape up the browns?

That is an awful design for a light fitting, why the hell have they made it with a translucent bit :? It would of been better if that had been stainless or chrome to hide the wires.

It may be that they have not identified the switched live!

If you can post a pic it will help

Yes, you are right.

Exactly the same as the other light that you did, but whoever fitted it has not tagged the switched live

I'd either get some brown sleeving or brown insulation tape and just wrap it around that blue switched live wire, before removing anything from the fitting. Once it has been identified you can fit the new light like you did with the first one

Ill use tape, with the other one I pulled the old fitting off after loosening all the wires and it caught the brown sleeve and pulled it off, I luckily had bent that one another way, but did panic for a moment!!

I shall crack on with the next one then!

Your a star, can I buy you a drink?!

If you lose the switched live wire it can be a real pain finding it again. It is really easy if you have a multimeter, but for many DIY'ers it can be difficult. A few people have been on here and said " I have removed all the wires from my light fitting, can you tell me where they all go?" ::b

Luckily you asked first, which makes it much easier
