So which gutter installation is correct?

This is where you can post pictures of extremely poor workmanship, whether it is done by a dodgy tradesman or by an incompetent DIY'er. Instructions on how to post pictures can be found in here.

The pic was taken in an upmarket area of Trowbridge. I think Inky Pete has the best explanation so far.

So is there any form of guttering above the windows themselves in these situations?

Or does all the rain which runs down the roof above the windows just pour down the frames?

Upmarket and Trowbridge in the same sentence  True there a few nice houses doted about.

I seem to recognise the property which is why I asked.

The left is original, if you look at the bit in the middle you can see where they cut the pipe to join the two sections.

Dunno. I got as close as I could and only had a camera phone. There looks to be some lead above the windows so maybe this directs the water around the frame and onto the tiles. Who knows.

Yes, not as classy as Bath! The name of the road escapes me but it is located off Hilperton Road in Trowbridge. So if the left is original why on earth did the owners of the righthand house get rid of it and erect the sh*te system?

Bet the window cleaner loves the one on the right with a real passion. Where would you rest your ladder to get to the top lights?

Inky Pete wrote:I reckon they were both built as cheap as possible with white guttering like the right hand one, and the people who bought the left had it re-done because it looks crap.

Neither house looks old enough to have needed it renewing due to age or damage.

If the right hand house only has the one grid, then that's probably the original configuration and next door have had the extra two downspouts and drains added afterwards.
I reckon you're right about the white one being the original guttering but surely even the black one could be done with just one grid also, just have a long pipe (at an angle?) to direct them all to it. It's only the same amount of water that the white one has to deal with. Is this a case of lazy builders or lazy architects?
