Make the alcove fit the tray, don't mess around trying to make a tiled shelf to take up the 48mm on one side, let the tray into the wall, then stud the other wall 38mm par timber and board that with aquapanel (12mm) this takes up 50mm and fits the tray perfectly eliminating the leak possibilities.peterpan wrote:and ... while i'm here, i've got a shower tray with 4 upstands that's about 40mm short of the full width of the next ensuite to be tiled. Ideally, it should be chased into the plaster a dn tiled from there but that just leves48mm to be filled on the other side .. can anyone suggest what to do? Short of treble boarding (lick and stick) both sides or creating a small tiled 'shelf' on one side at top of tray level, i don't have much idea how to make it look right... does anyonr here?

Ok Mudster, thanks for that ... I'll get the microban grout and finish off with that.
I accept what you say about the platerboard, maybe they wanted a bit more work!
Bob, the walls are part board and part plaster and part bick/bl;ock skimmed.
I have to admit the alcove isn't the right size (are they ever? and i'm stuck with the 40mm gap. The tray IS 4 upstands, from Just Trays .. the standard 1000x800mm comes like that and they boast it's a feature. the tiles are meant to hang over the upstand in the alcove but i guess you have to step over the 4th upstand to get a shower!
I'll go for the panel solution i think and lose 50mm that way .. solves 2 problems then
Thanks again,
Peter
