Not Sure if it is Worth a Watch or Not?

I started watching the first episode of McDonald and Dodds new series last night, I do not think I was in the mood as I got bored with it and switched it off after 30 minutes. I think that the filming locations are the only thing that pull me in as the rest seemed pretty dull. I will try to continue with it but as Mrs D was reading she clearly is not on board. It comes to something when Mrs D put on a Dance Mums episode that was more interesting with the carping harpy mums and megalomaniac teacher Abbie Lee.

We watched Nocturnal Animals on Netflix. It is a stage film that left us wondering what the hell it was all about. A mixture of a quite harrowing parallel story and a rather pointless main story it had enjoyable bits, stupid bits and what on earth was that about bits. So much so, that I had to read up a synopsis explanation on Digital Spy. That is why it has ended up here as a 50//50

Grabbing for something to watch I ended up watching another Jason Statham film on YouTube as Mrs D was watching some murder documentary on Netflix. This was far more superior to the usual cheap cut-and-paste crime shows she watches which have an idiot like Will Mellor pretending to be a detective on a case long solved. Anyhow, this Statham film was a typical cheap vehicle for him to take on countless superior numbers where the attackers have not worked out that approaching one at a time will see them done. Right guys when I give the signal we all rush him at once does not occur to the thugs. There was some long boring moments that I skipped and in summary, it was a poor plot but the bad guys get aced so it all ends happily ever after. I had started Transporter 3 but the fly-shite-faced girl was annoying me and Mrs D's documentary finished. All in, a bit poor.

We watched the first episode of Prague Mysteries on Amazon. It is a period piece set just after WW! when the Austro-Hungarian Empire was broken up. Bohemia became the Czech Republic. The series is centred on a detective and his team and it is in Czech with subtitles. It was a bit slow but we stuck with it and we are undecided whether we will watch the next. It has some charm but I am not sure that is enough.

We finally finished a series on Netflix called Eric. The cast are unattractive characters, especially Cumberhatch, and we have watched it intermittently as it has been a bit of a struggle. It was not riveting but elements of the story still held us. I cannot recommend it but it is better than the pap on BBC.

We watched the latest double episode of 24 hours in Police Custody which seems to be of minor interest rather than entertaining. This week's case focused on a murder that as it unwrapped exposed an awful underbelly of addiction in Wisbech in Cambridgeshire. It certainly did nothing for the town's tourist hopes. It was depressing and the role call of those who passed away at the end was a reflection of the whole thing. It's depressing but we watched it anyway, on reflection probably not worth a watch.

Always lagging a bit behind I managed towards urge Sam Mendes film 17 . I seem to recall dwd wrote about this film some time ago and if I recall he wasn’t totally gushing about it. While I thought it was watchable I didn’t think it was a great film , the plot seemed a bit thin and some scenes seemed out of place . The soldier’s journey down the river for instance was more Indiana Jones than anything else , are there many waterfalls in Flanders? Seemed to start ok but tailed off I thought .

That was a while ago, Mendez's film 1917 was hyped up as a must see at the time. I was quite caustic about it as there so many implausible holes in the script. I seem to recall after battling through the first part of their hazardous journey they meet a British patrol in a lorry. Could they not have got a ride with them and missed the perils faced in the first half of their mission? At the end we have a military church service in the woods where the messengers just walk in, no picket line or challenge. I thought the whole thing was stupid and would have been tactically solved by sending a Sopwith Camel over and dropping a marker message to the troops. Very silly on balance.

Yes I thought dropping a message would have worked too and thanks for reminding me that it was called 1917 not just 17 …

We are watching Strictly on fast forward only watching the dances and scores. I think Chris McCausland the blind contestant is so good, he really does well against all my expectations. As usual the scoring is corrupt and slanted towards who the BBC have decided they want to win. There are some good dancers this year and some turkeys like Toyah Wilcox and Paul Merson. I just can not stand that useless Tess Daly and her sidekick the Winkleman plus the awful judges.

Mrs d wanted to watch A Very Royal Scandal on Netflix so we watched the first episode. I was not too enthused as that insufferable prick Michael Sheen plays insufferable prick Prince Andrew. The series is a drama based on his disastrous Newsnight interview with Maitliss. Ruth Wilson plays her which is incredibly flattering to the actual reality.

I will have to suffer it, you do not.

I suffered the second episode of A Very Royal Scandal and it was not enhanced by the very dark resolution that they add for atmosphere, it just makes it hard to see.

I have downgraded BBC1 Showtrial to 50/50. It is grating me with all the left footers jibing all the time. The Asian defence lawyer is the best actor, the others are just being their woke selves.

After a lot of publicity, we started watching Curfew on Paramount tonight. As expected it is a load of woke tosh where men have to conform to a nightly curfew between 7 pm and 7 am to keep women safe. As you can imagine there is a lot of painting men as an enemy of women. Having said that I found myself half watching so I will reserve final judgment. However, so far it is 70% shite.

I watched Holding as well, and I totally get what you mean about the tone—it feels a bit like a mix of comedy and drama. The Irish charm really shines through, which makes it cozy to watch. I appreciate shows that take their time to develop characters, and this one does that nicely. I’d say it’s worth a watch if you enjoy something light but still meaningful. It's perfect for winding down after a long day!
